The Beaches Neighbourhood
From Coxwell Avenue in the west to Victoria Park Avenue in the east, Kingston Road in the north and bordered by the waterfront on the south, the Beach has been a popular residential area for well over a century.
It is one of only a few neighbourhoods with such a long stretch of shoreline-all bordered by a wooden boardwalk and sandy beach, frequented by roller bladers, volleyball players, paddlers and visitors all summer long. The main commercial stretch is Queen Street East, rich in restaurants, pubs, sidewalk patios, clothing and antique stores.
The residential area is characterized by Victorian and Edwardian houses on tree-lined streets with mature gardens- ranging from elegant carriage trade properties to more modest homes.
One of Toronto’s best-known neighbourhoods with a seaside, community feel.
The Four beaches: Woodbine, Kew, Scarboro, Balmy.
A 3.5 km wooden boardwalk along the shore for jogging, walking and cycling (connects to the Martin Goodman Trail).
Kew Gardens: tennis courts and a skating rink.
Glen Stewart Ravine: a leafy nature trail away from the crowds.
Queen Street East: main shopping street with independent shops, bakeries and bistros.
